Top teams continue to bow out in doubles at Roland Garros as third seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, and fourth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, suffered surprising second-round upsets on Friday. The top four seeds have all been eliminated before the round of 16 and only five seeds remain in the draw.
Sam Groth and Robert Lindstedt handed the Bryan brothers their earliest exit since 2010 with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win. The Bryans, making their 19th consecutive appearance, had reached at least the quarter-finals for 14 of the past 15 years. Groth/Lindstedt will next play Fernando Verdasco and Nenad Zimonjic, who defeated Julian Knowle and Florian Mayer 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Fourth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo were defeated by Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3. Harrison/Venus won their first ATP World Tour doubles title together this past month in Estoril. Awaiting them in the round of 16 are Indian duo Purav Raja and Divij Sharan.
Fifth seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares avoided the upset bug with a 6-1, 7-6(2) victory over Mikhail Elgin and Karen Khachanov. Murray/Soares will next battle ninth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas, who outlasted Treat Huey and Denis Istomin 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-4.
Seventh seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers scored an uncomplicated 6-1, 6-2 win over Malek Jaziri and Andreas Seppi, while 16th seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah defeated American duo Ernesto Escobedo and Sam Querrey 6-2, 6-4.
Unseeded teams to also advance on Friday include Aussies Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson, Spaniards David Marrero and Tommy Robredo, and Rogerio Dutra Silva and Paolo Lorenzi.
