Mischa Zverev: 10 Things To Know...


World No. 50 Mischa Zverev takes on four-time former champion Roger Federer at the Australian Open on Tuesday for a place in the semi-finals. ATPWorldTour.com reveals 10 things you need to know about the German.

1)    Is a 29-year-old left-hander who plays a serve and volley game - he came to net 118 times in his fourth-round Australian Open win over Andy Murray.

2)    Two years ago, he was No. 1,067 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Next week, he is projected to surpass his career-high ranking of No. 45 on 8 June 2009.

3)    He won through qualifying a record 10 times last year to make tour-level main draw events.

4)    Earlier this month, he and sibling Alexander Zverev (World No. 24) became the first brothers to concurrently feature in the Top 50 of the Emirates ATP Rankings since Christophe Rochus and Olivier Rochus on 8 May 2006.

5)    Is 2-0 in professional meetings against his brother, Alexander, who is also known as "Sascha" (both in qualifying rounds).

6)    Was born in Russia, but moved from Moscow to Germany with his family in 1991.

7)    Has won five ATP Challenger Tour titles (2006-Dublin; 2007-Karlsruhe, Istanbul, Dnepropetrovsk; 2016-Sarasota).

8)    His lone appearance in an ATP World Tour final was at 2010 Metz, when, after qualifying, he finished runner-up to Gilles Simon.

9)   He missed 17 straight Grand Slam main draws from 2012 Wimbledon through 2016 Wimbledon, losing in qualifying 11 times during that span. He was 1-5 at Australian Open and 5-17 at Grand Slams overall entering the tournament.

10)  Began playing tennis aged two and remains coached by his father Alexander Zverev Sr., a former ATP pro. His mother, Irena, is also a former player and coach.
