Sugita Breaks Into Top 50, Mover Of The Week


Yuichi Sugita completed the week of his career by playing his best tennis to capture his first ATP World Tour title at the Antalya Open after a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over France’s Adrian Mannarino. Read Report & Watch Highlights

In becoming the third Japanese to lift an ATP World Tour trophy, following in the footsteps of Shuzo Matsuoka (1992 Seoul) and Kei Nishikori (11 titles), he surged up 22 spots to a career-high No. 44 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

The 28-year-old Sugita, the fourth first-time winner on the ATP World Tour this year, also picked up his ninth ATP Challenger Tour crown on the grass courts of the Aegon Surbiton Trophy (d. Thompson) last month. Mannarino also jumped 11 spots to No. 51 today.

Another player who this week broke into the Top 50 first time is #NextGenATP Russian Daniil Medvedev, who rose three spots to a career-high No. 49 after he reached the Aegon International semi-finals (l. to Djokovic).

The two losing Antalya semi-finalists, Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis (No. 65, +14) and Italian Andreas Seppi (No. 87, +15), earned double-digit rises in the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Argentina’s Guido Pella returned to the Top 100 at No. 99 for the first time since 13 February 2017 (No. 83) as a result of clinching his 11th ATP Challenger Tour title at the Aspira Tennis Cup Trofeo BCS in Milan.
