Qualifier Federico Delbonis is one match win away from reaching his second final at the German Tennis Championships 2017 after beating third-seeded #NextGenATP Karen Khachanov, currently at a career-high No. 32 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes on Friday. “He hit big shots from the baseline, but I was able to return them and open up the court by staying aggressive,” said Delbonis. Four years ago, No. 81-ranked Delbonis beat Roger Federer in the semi-finals before losing to Fabio Fognini in his first ATP World Tour final. He will next meet his Argentinean compatriot, lucky loser and 2014 champion Leonardo Mayer, who defeated Jiri Vesely 7-6(4), 6-3, in the quarter-finals on Friday....

Robin Haase came alive in The Alps once more, just as he has done in two previous runs to the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad final, when the Dutchman ended David Goffin’s bid for a third ATP World Tour title on Friday. Haase began in fine style by breaking for a 2-0 lead, and while his top-seeded Belgium opponent stayed in contention, World No. 50 Haase won seven straight games from 5-5 in the first set en route to a 7-5, 6-1 victory in 81 minutes. Roberto Bautista Agut and his coach Pepe Vendrell visited the Wasserngrat mountain region in the Alps on Thursday, the smallest of Gstaad’s ski region. After hitting a few balls in the beautiful landscape, a hiking trail in the Alps, they enjoyed a lunch including the typical Swiss potato dish Rösti. “It is beautiful up here, the landscape is amazing,” said Bautista Agut. “I love the mountains!” Vendrell added, “This is outstanding, the best activity I’ve done all year.” Second seed Bautista Agut takes on Denis Istomin on Friday in the quarter-finals of the J.
