High-Five For Ferrer In Auckland?

For the eighth time in 13 attempts, David Ferrer is among the last four standing at the ASB Classic in Auckland. The four-time champion routed Next Gen ATP Finals champion Hyeon Chung on Thursday 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals. Ferrer has yet to drop a set in Auckland this week and is looking very much like the Ferrer of 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2013, the four years he took home the Auckland trophy. “I tried to play consistent and aggressive because with Chung, he plays with power, and it's never easy,” Ferrer said on court. “He has a really great future.” [ALSO LIKE] Ferrer broke the 21-year-old South Korean five times during the 75-minute victory. Ferrer's Turn To Roll Back The Years?

Is it David Ferrer's turn to roll back the years and enjoy a throwback season? The 35-year-old Spaniard looked as dominant as ever on Wednesday, needing only 66 minutes to prevail past 2017 finalist Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-2, 6-2 at the ASB Classic in Auckland. Ferrer, a four-time champion (2007, 2011, 2012, 2013), lost only eight service points (33/41, 80 per cent) and won almost 75 per cent of his second-serve return points against Portugal's No. 1. Ferrer enters the 2018 season just inside the Top 40, at No. 38. He won his 27th ATP World Tour title last year in Bastad, after finishing 2016 without a title. Ferrer captured five ATP World Tour crowns in 2015. [ALSO LIKE]...

Four-Time Champ Ferrer Opens Auckland Quest

David Ferrer opened his bid for an unprecedented fifth title at the ASB Classic, battling past Chinese teen Wu Yibing 7-6(7), 6-4 on Monday. The Spanish veteran prevailed after a gritty encounter, opening his 2018 ATP World Tour campaign with his 718th match victory. Ferrer is looking to carry the momentum from a strong second half of 2017, as he eyes another successful week at one of his favourite tournaments. He lifted the Auckland trophy in 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2013.  Victory over the Chinese #NextGenATP star wasn't as straightforward as the 35-year-old had hoped. Yibing saved nine of 12 break points faced and secured a critical break of his own when Ferrer served for the match at 5-3 in...
