Nishikori Bests Del Potro; Zverev Upsets Wawrinka

Third seed Kei Nishikori broke through against two-time Swiss Indoors Basel champion Juan Martin del Potro on Friday, recording his first win over the Argentine in five attempts to advance to the semi-finals, 7-5, 6-4. A single break of serve in each set was all Nishikori needed to move into the final four. The Japanese star saved all eight break points against him during the match, while accumulating 10 break point chances of his own. Kei Solves Lorenzi, Moves Into Basel QFs

Kei Nishikori overcame a spirited effort from Italian Paolo Lorenzi to advance to the Swiss Indoors Basel quarter-finals on Wednesday 7-6(3), 6-2. Nishikori spilled 18 unforced errors in the first set as the top Italian retrieved nearly everything back to him. But the World No. 5 cleaned up his play in the second set, reducing his unforced error tally to six to prevail in one hour and 38 minutes. Nishikori Breezes Through Opening Test In Basel

Third seed Kei Nishikori raced through his opening round match on Monday at the Swiss Indoors Basel, going on an eight-game run to advance 7-5, 6-1 over Dusan Lajovic. "He showed great fight out there," said Nishikori. "I wish I could have played a better match, but have had good training sessions these past two weeks and am feeling good physically." Both players traded routine service holds throughout most of the opening set, but Nishikori grabbed the first break of serve at 6-5 and never looked back.
