Kyrgios Races In Return To Winning Column

Aussie Nick Kyrgios picked up his first win in more than two months on Monday, starting his Coupe Rogers in Montreal with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Serbian Viktor Troicki. The 16th seed has struggled with hip and right shoulder injuries since 30 May, when he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round at Roland Garros. He retired from his past three opening matches at the Aegon Championships in London, Wimbledon and the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. last week. But the 22 year old left little to doubt against Troicki in their first FedEx ATP Head2Head meeting. He won 88 per cent of his first-serve points (21/24) and never faced a break point in the 50-minute rout. “I've been...

Kontinen/Peers Stand Tall In Washington

The Emirates ATP Doubles Race To London kicked into high gear on Sunday in Washington, as the top two teams in 2017 clashed for the Citi Open crown. After a one-hour and 33-minute battle, it was top seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers taking the title 7-6(5), 6-4 over No. 2 pairing Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. The Finnish-Aussie duo came up clutch in the big moments, firing 11 aces and saving both break points faced. "Every tournament we play, we feel more comfortable out there playing with each other," said Kontinen. "We're one of the contenders in every tournament. There are a lot of good teams out there. Kubot and Melo are exceptional too. We just have to play...

Zverev Dominates To Claim Citi Open Title

Before this week, outdoor hard courts had been the lone surface Alexander Zverev hadn't yet had success on during his career. But if his dominating week at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. is a sign, he's well on his way to mastering those conditions as well. The #NextGenATP German dropped only one set all week in the U.S. capital and finished the stretch with an exclamation point, beating South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win his first ATP World Tour 500 title. The 20-year-old Zverev has now won four titles this season – the Open Sud de France (indoor hard), the BMW Open by FWU (outdoor clay) and the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Rome (outdoor...

Huey/Cabal Cruise To Los Cabos Title

Juan Sebastian Cabal and Treat Huey raced to the doubles title on Saturday at Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex, with the second seeds requiring just 57 minutes to defeat Sergio Galdos and Roberto Maytin 6-2, 6-3.  "It was a great match and a really good week for us. We played some good matches all week, but I thought today was our best tennis," said Huey. "The city was unbelievable and everyone treated the players so well, so I can't wait to come back next year." Cabal/Huey remained in control throughout the contest. The only minor blip came when they were unable to serve out the match at 5-2, but they regrouped with their fifth break of the...
