Thiem's Best Run On Grass Continues

In recent years, Dominic Thiem has experienced an array of clay-court success. The right-hander has won six ATP World Tour titles on the red dirt and has twice reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros. But Thiem has largely struggled to replicate that success on grass. He's well on his way to changing that narrative, though, during this fortnight at Wimbledon. The 23-year-old Austrian continued his best run at The Championships on Saturday, beating #NextGenATP American Jared Donaldson 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 to make the fourth round of the grass-court Grand Slam for the first time. Thiem had never reached past the second round at the All England Club, falling in the round of 64 the past two years. He entered Wimbledon...

Zverev Breaks Through At Wimbledon

#NextGenATP German Alexander Zverev will play in the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time this fortnight at The Championships. The 20-year-old right-hander secured his spot in the fourth round on Saturday with a straightforward 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory against Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner on No. 2 Court. Zverev had reached the third round of a Grand Slam on three prior occasions – last year's Roland Garros (l. Dominic Thiem) and Wimbledon (l. Tomas Berdych) and the Australian Open earlier this year (l. Rafael Nadal). But the celebrated 6'6” right-hander broke through on Saturday when he displayed the level of tennis that helped him crack the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings in May. [ALSO LIKE]...

Federer Continues Mischa Dominance

Mischa Zverev joked before his Wimbledon third-round match against Roger Federer that when the seven-time champion is at his best, “You just walk around, pick up balls [and] hope that he’s going to start missing.” Federer didn't miss much on Saturday, though. The third seed Federer hammered 61 winners to just seven errors and won 83 per cent of his first-serve points to prevail over the 28th seed Zverev 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 49 minutes. The victory puts Federer into the second week at Wimbledon for the 15th time. “I had really good focus on my serve today. It was avoidable not to be broken in the first set, but then I hung on down break point...

Murray Survives Fognini Challenge

The most frustrating moment of Andy Murray’s season arguably came against Fabio Fognini this May at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The world No. 1 struggled for form in his opening match in Rome as the Italian delighted the home crowd with a straight-sets win. But in another epic chapter of their intense rivalry, top seed Murray got revenge in their third-round clash on Friday at Wimbledon. The defending champion rallied from 2-5 in the fourth set, saving five set points to prevail over the 28th seed Fognini 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in two hours and 39 minutes.  “I didn't feel like I played my best tennis, but I won and I got through it. That's a really positive thing,” said...

Tsonga, Querrey Have Epic Wimbledon Clash Suspended

The last time Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Sam Querrey battled at Wimbledon in 2014, they put on a marathon battle that lasted two days. Play was suspended at 9-9 in the fifth set before Tsonga came back to prevail 14-12. Three years later, history will repeat itself. The 12th seed Tsonga and 24th seed Querrey will return to the court for a second day after their lengthy third-round match on Friday was suspended due to darkness. Tsonga will serve at 2-6, 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, 5-6 when play resumes on Saturday.  Almost nothing separated the pair after two hours and 54 minutes of play. Tsonga hit 51 winners to 27 errors, while Querrey hit 52 winners to 27 errors. They’re also nearly...
