Goffin Battles, Shapovalov Saves 4 M.P. In Montreal

Ninth seed David Goffin didn’t have things all his own way on Tuesday at the Coupe Rogers in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Japan’s Yuichi Sugita over one hour and 44 minutes. The Belgian, who is currently No. 13 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, led 4-2 in the first set but then won just five points in the next four games. Although he regrouped to win five straight games in the second set, the decider was a close affair – with Sugita ceding control to Goffin in the penultimate game. Chung, #NextGenATP Reach Montreal Third Round

Three #NextGenATP players, Hyeon Chung, Borna Coric and Ernesto Escobedo, who are all vying for a place at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan later this year, got off to winning starts on Tuesday at the Coupe Rogers. All three players feature in the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Race To Milan. Chung, 21, withstood 16 aces from 2014 semi-finalist Feliciano Lopez in a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(3) win over two hours and 15 minutes to set up a second-round encounter against ninth seed David Goffin or Yuichi Sugita.
