Robredo Enjoys Birthday Victory In Estoril

Tommy Robredo celebrated his 35th birthday with an opening win and an on-court cake presentation on Monday at the Millennium Estoril Open. The Spaniard won 84 per cent of his first-serve points to get past Russian Evgeny Donskoy, the only man to beat Roger Federer this season, 6-3, 6-2. Robredo will next face top seed and countryman Pablo Carreno Busta. South African Kevin Anderson won his third clay-court match of the season, beating Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso 6-2, 6-3 in 74 minutes. Two home hopefuls also advanced on day one in Estoril. Robredo Upsets Dimitrov To Reach Marrakech QFs

Tommy Robredo stated his intention of another title-winning run in Marrakech on Thursday as he ousted top seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II. The Spaniard has an 11-1 record at this ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament, winning the title in 2013 (d. Anderson) and reaching the final in 2011 (l. to Canas) when it was held in Casablanca. His victory over Dimitrov marked his first Top 20 win since beating No. 11 Dimitrov in the third round at Indian Wells in 2015. Robredo, Troicki Feature At Indian Wells Thursday

Twelve-time ATP World Tour titlist Tommy Robredo makes his return to the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday in his first match at Indian Wells in two years. Having undergone right elbow surgery last season, the former World No. 5 in the Emirates ATP Rankings arrives in the desert on a protected ranking and will meet #NextGen ATP Russian Karen Khachanov first up on Day 1. The pair has never met and will open play on Stadium 1, with Robredo looking to overturn an age gap of 14 years to deny the World No. 52.
