Sugita Reaches First Final In Antalya

Someone is guaranteed to win their first ATP World Tour title at the Antalya Open after Yuichi Sugita and Adrian Mannarino prevailed in tough semi-final matches on Friday.  Sugita advanced to his first ATP World Tour final after overcoming Marcos Baghdatis. The 28-year-old Japanese player was leading Baghdatis 6-3, 6-7(7), 4-1 when the Cypriot retired due to dehydration after two hours and 18 minutes of play. Baghdatis, who has now recovered, will later today travel to London for The Championships at Wimbledon, which begins on Monday. Sugita Opens Grass Season With Surbiton Title

A LOOK BACK Aegon Surbiton Trophy (Surbiton, U.K.): Sixth seed Yuichi Sugita of Japan came out on top in a tight 7-6(7), 7-6(8) final over seventh seed Jordan Thompson of Australia. Sugita saved two set points in the second-set tie-break at 6/7 and 7/8. He didn’t drop a set throughout the tournament, surviving a waterlogged week in London.  The 28 year old picks up his ninth ATP Challenger Tour title and his first on grass.
