Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev, who captured the doubles title in Montpellier earlier this year, have teamed up again, this time in a bid for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia crown. The brothers began their quest with a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 win over Sam Querrey and Gilles Simon on Monday in Rome, saving four of the six break points they faced in the 72-minute victory. They will next face Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, the second seeds and defending champions, in the second round.
Florin Mergea and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi defeated Tommy Haas and Max Mirnyi 6-4, 6-2 to set a second-round clash with fifth seeds and Mutua Madrid Open champions Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
John Isner and Jack Sock advanced with a 6-4, 4-6, 14-12 win over Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau. The Americans needed 87 minutes to reach the second round, where they will next challenge third seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.
