Tom Kohler-Cadmore has become the latest recipient of the Walter Lawrence trophy for scoring the fastest hundred in the English domestic season. His ton came off just 43 balls on the opening night of the NatWest T20 Blast against Durham Jets at New Road with the batsman finishing on 127. In a show of power hitting the Worcestershire batsman smashed 14 hours and eight sixes as he recorded the highest individual T20 score in the County’s history. The 22-year-old follows in the footsteps of Worcestershire alumni Graeme Hick and Vikram Solanki who won the award in 1988 and 2009 respectively. The Rapids set a massive 225-6 in their 20 overs which proved too much for the Jets to chase down...
From the moment Toby Roland-Jones uprooted the leg stump of Ryan Sidebottom it was impossible to wipe the smile off the faces of any Middlesex fan or player. More than 20 years have passed since the county last won the title and the manner in which they sealed this famous victory will be an occasion long etched into the memories of those who witnessed it. Middlesex remained unbeaten in the County Championship all season, and on a home surface that made bowling teams out twice in four days tricky, their achievement can be considered even more impressive. Led by James Franklin, the New Zealander struggled to express his gratitude for the squad: “These boys are awesome; I can’t say enough....
The fairytale farewell Jason Gillespie dreamt of may not have been fulfilled, as Middlesex clinched the County Championship title on a dramatic final day of the season at Lord’s, but the Yorkshire head coach is still looking back on his time at the county fondly. Gillespie, who leaves his role at the White Rose club and returns to Australia this winter after five seasons away, watched on as his team missed out on their third successive number one spot, defeated in the final session by 61 runs. It would’ve been the first time the feat of a hat-trick of titles were achieved since the 1960s, however, Gillespie has no disputes about the result on an enthralling finish to the 2016...
Warwickshire will play Division One cricket next year after a tremendous 237-run victory over LancashireEventually, the Red Rose learned of their safety too, courtesy of Durham's fine win against Hampshire which relegated Hants to Division Two. Chasing a notional victory target of 347 at Edgbaston, Lancashire were bowled out for 109 early on the final afternoon, their batting pared away by relentlessly accurate bowling led by Rikki Clarke (10.5-3-20-4), Jeetan Patel (24-11-46-3), and Chris Wright (14-8-8-2). By banking their first home championship win of the season at the last attempt, Warwickshire preserved the First Division status they have held unbroken since 2009. Best @WarwickshireCCC team performance of the year by far. Well done lads. Lots to work on for next...
Toby Roland-Jones has written his name in Middlesex folklore after a heroic performance that sealed the County Championship. If his six wickets in the second innings is considered inspired than the hat-trick to win the Championship can be considered herculean. Obliterating the tail, the paceman sparked jubilant scenes at Lord’s which culminated in bodies piling on to the bowler as they celebrated their first Championship title since 1993. This is the moment @tobyrj21 will never forget - when he bowled @RyanSidebottom to win the title for @Middlesex_CCC! https://t.co/uXy4iNJOuE — County Championship (@CountyChamp) September 23, 2016 Speaking after his heroics, the 28-year-old did confess he wasn’t thinking about anything other than mopping up the Yorkshire tail: “I didn’t know it was...
