Blast Motion is a video capturing software and motion sensor that can measure movement, create highlights of action, and lay real-time metrics over footage taken with a smartphone.

Today, Blast Motion announced the release of 3.3, its latest update to their wearable motion capturing technology. In this new release there are many new app functions but most notably, they have added Adaptive Slow-Mo which will make video editing for users much simpler.

With current slow motion video solutions, users have to manually set the start and end points as well as edit captured video footage.  Blast Motion’s new Adaptive Slow-Mo does away with manual labor by using motion sensors and Blast’s patented Video Capture technology to allow the app to slow down or speed up video playback based on the user’s actions.  There is no need for user editing or playback.

So how would a basketball player use adaptive slow-mo?

A player would just clip the Blast Motion Sensor on his waistband, and using an iPhone or iPad within the Blast Basketball Replay app, he would capture video of himself taking a couple of jump shots.  The Blast app would then create video highlights, and the adaptive slow-mo would slow down the video playback at the point where he jumps to make the shot, then goes back to normal speed when his feet hit the ground.

“With the introduction of adaptive slow-mo functionality, athletes are starting to see the power of wearable motion capture technology,” said Donovan Prostrollo, senior director of marketing, Blast Motion. “Metrics alone are powerful, but when you pair metrics with video and build the metrics in real-time as the action unfolds in slow motion, you create a very personal experience that makes analyzing video fun and highly shareable. Adaptive slow-mo allows athletes to gain greater insights into the finer details of what their bodies are doing when the action occurs, which helps them improve their game.”

Another new feature is the Blast Action Reply for motorcross, skateboarding and BMX.  With this feature, smartphone cameras become mobile action cameras via the added native iOS camera support.  Blast Action Reply is configured with all of the new Blast Motion features as well.  Other new features introduced in Blat Motion’s latest release include One-Touch Access to Metric Info, Simplified User Interface and Simplified Registration Process.

Current Blast users can upgrade to the new release for free in the iTunes store.  Blast Motion has a complete line of personalized products: Blast Basketball Replay, Blast Golf Replay, Blast Action Replay, Blast Baseball replay and Blast Athletic Performance.
