StubHub Uses Augmented Reality To Help Super Bowl Ticket Buyers

StubHub is bringing U.S. Bank Stadium to life with augmented reality, as the online ticket marketplace on Tuesday released an iOS app update in time for potential Super Bowl ticket buyers to check out an immersive view of the venue before the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles play in the big game.

The AR feature enables fans to use their iPhones and iPads to point their cameras at a flat surface and have a rendering of the stadium appear in 3D. Swipe around the stadium, and you can see what the vantage point of the game would be from a specific seating section. Fans can also look around a map of the surrounding area to see the location of parking lots, public transportation, StubHub ticket pickup, StubHub’s pregame party, points of interest in Minneapolis and general information on the game.

The augmented reality feature was built using ARKit, and Tech Times provided a look at what fans can experience.

“StubHub’s immersive view experience not only demonstrates a practical use case for AR within ticketing and live events, but also serves as an important milestone for the industry,” StubHub CTO Matt Swann said in a statement. “When it comes to our users, we’re passionate about providing solutions in ticket buying and selling that offer a clear value. As the first ticketing player to implement this technology, we hope to further enhance the purchasing experience ahead of the biggest day in football.”

StubHub app users already have been able to see U.S. Bank Stadium among other venues in virtual reality. StubHub’s seat visualization product launched in 2016, and by sliding the phone into a VR viewer, fans can get 360-degree views from their selected seats.
