Tecate Bold Punch App Drops Before Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith Bout

For the Canelo Alvarez vs. Liam Smith fight on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Tecate Bold Punch app was released for Android in addition to iOS.

Tecate, the Mexican beer that has a sponsorship deal with Alvarez, is hoping that 21+ fight fans will enjoy an even more in-depth fight experience than before with Bold Punch as they reach into the Android space.

The app first graced the Apple Store in April in advance of Alvarez’s fight with Amir Khan and then was officially released on Android for the fighter’s latest bout.

With the Mexican Independence Weekend bout coming up, the app will display different types of content, including a feature that has the phone vibrating every time boxing journalist Steve Kim at ringside records a Canelo power punch during the fight.

There will also be behind-the-scenes video, including live streams and pre-fight content from the locker room. On the eve of the fight Friday, a chat with Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Larry Merchant and Jerry Jones will be streamed live on the Bold Punch app, RingTV.com and Golden Boy Promotion’s Facebook Page.

“Boxing and Tecate go hand in hand, which is why we are thrilled to be giving the fans an exclusive inside look to the Canelo vs. Smith fight with the Bold Punch app,” De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said in a statement. “Over Mexican Independence Day weekend, Tecate will be the fight fan’s ultimate guide to all of the action-packed festivities and behind-the-scenes content during the fight.”

Reaching the 21+ demographic is key in solidifying boxing’s branding and even more important in retaining those viewers and developing fans.

The closer fans get to the action, the more exciting the second-screen experience and Tecate Bold Punch is hoping to be the perfect knockout.

“You can’t just go big in Texas! Therefore, we’re going big nationally to bring fight fans closer to the ring while fueling Canelo’s crossover to the US market through extensive broadcast, retail and digital promotions,” Tecate Vice Presdient Felix Palau said.
