“Vision is your most important muscle, and a natural enhancement will help take your play to the next level”–Doctors Charlene Henderson and Tracy MacIntyre.

Doctors Charlene Henderson and Tracy MacIntyre partnered to form “Sports Vision Carolina” in 2013. This facility, located in Charlotte, North Carolina is dedicated to testing, training, and enhancing the vision of athletes. We spoke with them regarding many of the different gadgets they make use of to help their clients.

Strobe Glasses

Strobe Glasses are glasses which feature flashing lights at a rate that the user or trainer sets. The flashing light is designed to cause a distraction and make the exercise that the athlete is performing more difficult to complete. When the user removes the glasses, that same exercise is then easier because the distraction of the flashing light is then removed. This product can enhance the vision of any athlete regardless of sport.  Doctor Henderson mentioned football and baseball amongst others as sports whose athletes can make use of these glasses.

“If we are training a football player and they are catching passes with the strobe glasses and the lights are flashing on and off they get less information,” said Dr. Henderson.  “They have to learn to process more information more quickly and accurately.  When they take them off it makes them feel like the game has slowed down.”

Fit Light

The Fit Light is a system of lights, which can be set up to flash different colors. It is used for many different reaction exercises, which apply to many different sports. Dr. Hendersen and Dr. MacIntyre point out that this product will force athletes to think and process information faster in order to react faster, much like the strobe glasses.

The Doctors were also keen to point out the convenience of this product. It is extremely compact and can be taken anywhere.

Ortho-K

Ortho-K are a new type of contact lenses. They are worn overnight and help to correct vision. Ortho-K, or Corneal Reshaping helps to slow the effects of Myopia and improve vision over time. Dr. Henderson likened these contact lenses to “retainers for the eyes” and has hailed them as a very strong alternative to lasik surgery, which the doctors find risky for athletes.

More information on Ortho-K can be found here.

Computers, Tablets, and Databases

Lastly, and not surprisingly, the doctors make incredible use of computers in their practice.   When doing a consultation they maintain a database to help compare athletes to their patients. In addition, they mentioned that tablets are now more often being used for concussion tests on sidelines.

Doctors Charlene Henderson and Tracy MacIntyre are trying to push their patients to the next level. Their use of technology has had a profound impact on improving the vision of many.
