Juan Martin del Potro is two matches away from moving into the last spot for the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals, which will be held Nov. 12-19 in London. The 29-year-old Argentine has compiled an outstanding 19-4 record since the start of the US Open and he is playing in his fifth consecutive tournament in as many weeks. He takes a 3-0 head-to-head record against Thursday’s opponent, Dutchman Robin Haase. The Argentine can overtake Pablo Carreno Busta in the Emirates ATP Race to London with a semi-final showing in Paris and can guarantee his spot in London by winning his first ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

• In the next match on, No. 5 seed Dominic Thiem takes on Fernando Verdasco, who won the only previous meeting in five sets in the 2R at 2015 Wimbledon. Both players are attempting to reach the Rolex Paris Masters quarter-finals for the first time. Next up is No. 9 seed and last year’s finalist John Isner against No. 6 seed Grigor Dimitrov. They have split their two previous meetings with Dimitrov winning the last encounter 76 76 in the semi-finals at ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati in August en route to his biggest career title. Next on is No. 16 seed Jack Sock against No. 17 Lucas Pouille in a first-time meeting. Pouille won his biggest ATP title at the 500 level event in Vienna last Sunday (d. Tsonga). Sock is trying to reach the quarter-finals in Paris for the second straight year.

• In the evening session, Rafael Nadal brings a 3-1 head-to-head record against Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay. On Wednesday, Nadal clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking for the fourth time with his win over #NextGenATP player Hyeon Chung. The 31-year-old Spaniard is the oldest year-end No. 1 and first year-end No. 1 over the age of 30 since the Emirates ATP Rankings began in 1973.

• In the final match on Court Central, No. 14 seed Roberto Bautista Agut meets No. 3 seed Marin Cilic, who enters with a 3-1 head-to-head advantage. On Court 1, Serbian qualifier Filip Krajinovic plays French wild card Nicolas Mahut, who won the only previous meeting at 2015 Wimbledon. In the next match on No. 7 seed David Goffin, who is closing in on one of the two remaining spots for London, takes on wild card Julien Benneteau. Goffin won the previous meeting in the 1R at this year’s US Open.
