Dominic Inglot and Mate Pavic notched their first team title in their first tournament together, celebrating a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 triumph over Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in the Grand Prix Hassan II final on Saturday.
For Inglot, it was his seventh ATP World Tour title and the Brit's first of the season. His most recent crown had come in St. Petersburg last year with current World No. 1 Henri Kontinen. Pavic, meanwhile, claimed his sixth ATP World Tour doubles title and first since lifting the 's-Hertogenbosch trophy in 2016 with Michael Venus.
"This is the first we played together and we had a great week," said Inglot. "Mate played very well. The level was extremely high, almost like at a Masters 1000. We had to beat very strong teams this week and therefore the title means even more to us. I had a great time this week and enjoyed the city very much."
Inglot and Pavic take home 250 Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings points and split €26,110 in prize money with their triumph in Marrakech. They claimed scalp after scalp in capturing the title, having dismissed third seeds Rohan Bopanna and Marcin Matkowski in the quarter-finals and top seeds Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram in the semis, before edging the second-seeded duo of Granollers and Lopez.
On Saturday, the British-Croatian duo were on the ropes after dropping the second set 6-2 and falling behind a quick mini-break in the Match Tie-break. But they would storm back from 5/3 down, reeling off the next five points and they eventually sealed the title on their third championship point. The match ended when the Spaniards were assessed a point penalty after Granollers broke his racquet at 10-9 in the decider.
Granollers and Lopez, meanwhile, were seeking their fifth tour-level title in their 11th final as a team. It has been more than three years since they lifted their last trophy in Buenos Aires 2014. Individually, Granollers falls to 14-17 in tour-level doubles finals, while Lopez drops to 13-16. On Saturday, Granollers reached the 300 doubles match wins milestone.
