Bryans Celebrate 1,000 Doubles Team Match Wins

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have conquered Everest: the first team to record 1,000 doubles match wins. A little more than two years since they celebrated their 100th title, the twins have set another milestone that may stand the test of time. “Very few players will achieve it,” says Nenad Zimonjic. “In the next 100 years, you’ll still be counting on one hand. Their longevity and number of titles will be so tough to break.” Their achievement has spanned 19 seasons, from their first victory over Mark Keil and Dave Randall at Atlanta in 1998 to today's win over Pablo Cuevas and Viktor Troicki in the Erste Bank Open 500 quarter-finals. Their story is a product of longevity, commitment, and...

Del Potro Still Enjoying The Simple Things

It's the little things – playing injury-free, earning a living through tennis – that Juan Martin del Potro appreciates most these days. Of course, the Argentine wishes he would have beaten Belgian David Goffin in the first round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Tuesday. DelPo had his chances, too – he led by set and a break. But tennis is tennis, and Goffin, a Tokyo finalist on Sunday (l. to Kyrgios), came back on the Comeback King of 2016. “He started to return much better in the second and in the third set,” del Potro said of Goffin, who won 50 per cent of his return points in the second and third sets after winning exactly nine per cent...

Tie-Break Titan: Chiudinelli Reflects On Historic Run

In the midst of a resurgent 2016 campaign, Marco Chiudinelli is pushing towards a return to the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. The 35-year-old Swiss, who has soared more than 150 spots to World No. 125, has amassed 25 wins this year on the ATP Challenger Tour and owes much of his success to a dominant run in tie-breaks. Calm under pressure, Chiudinelli established an impressive streak of 13 consecutive Challenger tie-breaks won from January to September. Despite dropping the first set 7-6(3) to eventual champion Marsel Ilhan at last week’s event in Izmir, Turkey, it will go down as the second-longest streak on the circuit since 2000. Only South Africa’s Wesley Moodie has won more tie-breaks in...
