FOX Sports bringing popular camera tech to NFL Playoffs, kicking off with game in Seattle

The NFL Playoffs kick off this weekend and FOX Sports is bringing along some popular regular-season technology to capture the action. FOX says it will be using its so-called “Megalodon” mirrorless camera system during four postseason games it’s broadcasting, including on Saturday when the Seattle Seahawks face the Los Angeles Rams at Lumen Field in Seattle. If you missed the news on this camera tech, it originally caught the attention of Seahawks fans and others back in December when it was used to bring a cinematic quality to footage of end zone celebrations. Seattle Seahawks’ deep dive into analytics starts with a ‘data lake’ built by Amazon Web Services

It’s trendy these days to turn to sports data analytics for a deep dive into how a team is set up to compete and what metrics make the most sense for how players perform in a game. For the Seattle Seahawks, that dive starts with a “data lake” built with Amazon Web Services. A data lake is a “centralized repository that allows organizations to store, govern, discover, and share all of their structured and unstructured data at any scale,” says Werner Vogels, chief technology officer at Amazon and author of a new blog post that should make any football fan… Read More

The CenturyLink Field name dates back to 2011 and in some fan circles the stadium came to be known as The CLink. The facility originally opened as Seahawks Stadium in 2002, and Qwest… Read More

The Seattle Seahawks are running another play from an evolving virtual fan engagement playbook, teaming with Microsoft once again, this time to connect fans in Microsoft Teams with players and coaches before a game. The experience using the tech giant’s collaboration software is called Pregame Huddle, and allows a select group of fans to feel closer to the action as the Seahawks warm up at CenturyLink Field. As the team continues to play in an empty stadium during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Seahawks are seizing on technology to try to bridge the divide. Players coming out of the tunnel to… Read More

Can the Seahawks win without the 12th Man’s roar? With no stadium crowd, NFL to use pumped-in noise

If there’s one NFL team that relies on its home stadium crowd noise as a competitive advantage, it’s the Seattle Seahawks. With 70,000 empty seats at CenturyLink Field because of the coronavirus pandemic, fake noise will have to stand in for the celebrated “12th Man” for the foreseeable future. The NFL’s 32 teams will be using artificial crowd noise, supplied by the league, and pumped through stadium sound systems to replicate a bit of what happens during games and to make the entire experience sound a bit better for television. The Seahawks open the season at Atlanta on Sunday and… Read More
