Former Champion Klizan Overcomes Mayer In Munich

Martin Klizan continued his strong run of form at the BMW Open by FWU on Monday, beating 2011 finalist Florian Mayer 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The 2014 champion (d. Fognini) converted six of his 15 break point opportunities en route to victory in a match lasting just over two hours. Klizan improves to 8-1 in the Bavarian capital and sends Mayer to his 10th consecutive loss at tour-level. Klizan, who defeated Novak Djokovic in Barcelona and became the first man to win five games in a set against Rafael Nadal on clay since the 2017 Internazionali BNL d’Italia, will meet Mirza Basic or seventh seed Gael Monfils in the second round. Klizan Stuns Djokovic To Reach Third Round

Slovakia’s Martin Klizan produced a big upset to beat Novak Djokovic 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Wednesday. The 2015 semi-finalist (l. to Nishikori) converted each of his three break-point opportunities in the one-hour, 39-minute contest to defeat Djokovic, who was playing his first match in Barcelona since losing on his debut to Daniel Gimeno Traver in 2006. Klizan, who reached a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 24 after his run to the last four in 2015, will meet Feliciano Lopez for a place in the quarter-finals after the Spaniard beat Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in three sets on Tuesday. Klizan Claims Indian Wells Challenger Crown

A LOOK BACK Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells (Indian Wells, U.S.A.): Martin Klizan capped a sun-drenched week of tennis in paradise, taking the title at the inaugural Challenger in Indian Wells on Sunday. The Slovakian defeated Darian King 6-3, 6-3 to lift his first trophy in two years, since prevailing at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Hamburg in 2016. Klizan, a former World No. 24, is on the comeback trail after struggling with a left calf injury last year.
