Monroe Riding High On Late Doubles Breakthrough

It’s not unfamiliar to see players take a few years to find their footing on the ATP World Tour, but Nicholas Monroe recently achieved a career milestone at age 34. The American, who celebrates his 35th birthday this week at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, reached his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final this year in Miami. Monroe/Sock Dismiss Bryans For Miami Final Spot

Nicholas Monroe and Jack Sock moved into a first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 doubles final as a pairing, defeating four-time Miami Open presented by Itau champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 7-6(5), 6-3 on Thursday. As a result, Henri Kontinen will become the 50th player and the first from Finland to be named No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings on Monday. A high quality first set required a tie-break to separate the American pairings.
