Karlovic Saves Two MPs Against Robredo In Barcelona

If you’re looking for anyone to prove that age is just a number, look no further than 39-year-old Ivo Karlovic. The Croatian saved two match points in a second-set tie-break to oust former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo 6-7(5), 7-6(8), 6-4 on Monday at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, winning his first match at the event since his run to the 2006 quarter-finals (l. to Wawrinka). It is Karlovic's first appearance in Barcelona since 2008. The 6'11" right-hander has not let slip the momentum of an impressive run to the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship semi-finals two weeks ago. Karlovic extended his FedEx ATP Head2Head series lead against the 35-year-old Robredo to 4-0 thanks to a...

History In Houston: Karlovic Into The Semis

Ivo Karlovic said he was happy after his opening-round win for various reasons, including earning his first victory as a 39-year-old. Three days later, he has done a lot more than that. The Croatian beat fourth seed Nick Kyrgios 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 Friday at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship to become the oldest player to advance to an ATP World Tour semi-final since Jimmy Connors at 1993 San Francisco. The right-hander was already the oldest quarter-finalist at Houston in the Open Era. "It's definitely a huge win. I lost against him every match up until now," said Karlovic, the 2007 Houston titlist. "I'm really happy that I won today." Kyrgios had previously owned a 4-0...

The father of two is pursuing his ninth ATP World Tour title on Long Island this week. Karlovic spoke to ATPWorldTour.com after the match about his passions, what he wants to do in the future and more. What’s your biggest passion outside of sport and why? Right now I’m a family man. I have two kids so every opportunity I have I just like to...

Quito's High Altitude Treats Karlovic Well

Croatian Ivo Karlovic will turn 39 later this month, but the big right-hander still remains one of the very best servers on the ATP World Tour. The 6'11” Karlovic used his best weapon to much success again on Wednesday, not facing a break point during his 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-6(4) win against American Ernesto Escobedo at the Ecuador Open. The seventh-seeded Karlovic struck 24 aces and won 95 per cent (53/56) of his first-serve points to move into the second round in Quito. Karlovic will next meet #NextGenATP Frenchman Corentin Moutet. [ALSO LIKE] “It was a really difficult match as you can see, with the result. With the altitude it is always difficult because the ball bounces higher... so there is...
