Querrey Goes From Winless To Roland Garros Second Round

Sam Querrey of the U.S. had not won a clay-court match this year before Monday. The American had gone 0-3 before heading to Roland Garros. But apparently he just needed to play in Paris. The 12th seed avoided a winless European clay-court swing by beating #NextGenATP compatriot Frances Tiafoe 6-1, 6-2, 7-6(6). Querrey hit 11 aces and controlled play with his big serve to beat the 20-year-old Tiafoe for the second time in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series (Shanghai 2017). Tiafoe had reached his second ATP World Tour final at the Millennium Estoril Open earlier this month (l. to Sousa). Tennis With A View: Ferrer & Querrey Enjoy Geneva Sights

Sam Querrey and David Ferrer are the first and fourth seeds, respectively, at the Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open this week in Switzerland. But before they begin their campaigns at the ATP World Tour 250-level event, the pair took to a smaller court for some pre-tournament fun. Querrey and Ferrer played mini-tennis at the Cité du Temps, a square in the centre of Geneva that offers a view of Lake Léman, a jet d’eau and the Rhône River. Fun Continues For Querrey/Johnson In South Florida

Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey still have yet to drop a set at the Miami Open presented by Itau. The American pairing advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on Wednesday after another straight-set win 6-3, 6-2 against eighth-seeded Colombians Juan Sebastian/Robert Farah.
