Shapovalov's Milestone Win, Beats Berdych In Rome

Denis Shapovalov will become the Canadian No. 1 on Monday, when he officially passes Milos Raonic in the ATP Rankings, after a comeback first-round win over No. 15 seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Shapovalov was outplayed initially on Tuesday, but began to find his forehand range towards the end of the first set of a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over the vastly experienced Berdych, who was denied his 20th match win at the Foro Italico. 2018 Next Gen ATP Finals To Continue To Innovate

Following the success of the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan in 2017, the second edition of the tournament, taking place at Fiera Milano from November 6-10, will continue to trial a best-of-five set format, shorter sets to 4 (tie-break at 3-All), No-Ad scoring, and No-Lets, the ATP announced on Tuesday at a press conference at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome.   Other innovations such as Electronic Line Calling through Hawk-Eye Live, a 25-second Shot Clock, In-Match player coaching via head-sets will also be back for the second edition. Tennis fans have heard of their potential for years. #NextGenATP players such as Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev have been touted by coaches and analysts frequently during recent times. But thus far in 2018, fans have also had many opportunities to see the Next Generation in action as the 21-and-under contenders continue to steal headlines on the ATP World Tour.
