Gardnar Mulloy: 1913-2016

Gardnar Mulloy, who passed away on 14 November aged 102, was one of the last links to the pre-Second World War tennis circuit. The American rubbed shoulders with royalty – including Queen Elizabeth II, President Bill Clinton and movie stars, but lived his entire life in a modest three-bedroom Miami home. The remains of the original family court can still be seen in the backyard. NextGen Napolitano Reflects On First Challenger Title

There are just two weeks left in the 2016 ATP Challenger Tour season, but #NextGen star Stefano Napolitano is peaking just as the year draws to a close. The 21-year-old Italian captured his first Challenger title last week on home soil at the $50,000 event in Ortisei. Napolitano defeated third seed and fellow Italian Alessandro Giannessi in the final and produced his best tennis throughout the week, storming through the draw without losing a set. “Winning my first challenger last week in Ortisei gave me a boost of confidence,” said Napolitano. “It confirmed that I’m doing good work with my team that’s put us in the right direction. Dodig/Melo Off The Mark In London

Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo ignited their title challenge at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi on Tuesday. Both partnerships lost their opening Edberg/Jarryd Group contests but the 2014 runners-up enhanced their chances of a semi-final place courtesy of a strong serving display at the O2 arena. In the first set at 2-1 ATP World Tour veteran Mirnyi, a two-time champion at the season finale, was the first to succumb on serve as Dodig/Melo sent across some rocket returns.
