Jack Sock showed more than just great tennis during his third-round win on Thursday over Richard Gasquet at the BNP Paribas Masters. The American also displayed an amazing level of sportsmanship in conceding a point to his opponent.
With Gasquet serving at 1-5, 40/40, the Frenchman hit an untouchable serve that was called out by a line judge. But rather than make Gasquet challenge the call, Sock acknowledged the ball was in and gave the point to Gasquet. The Parisian crowd appreciated Sock’s class and gave him a long round of applause.
Sock went on to win the match over Gasquet, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. He will play John Isner on Friday for a place in the semi-finals.
Second seed Andy Murray wasted no time getting down to business on Thursday against No. 13 seed and local favourite Lucas Pouille at the BNP Paribas Masters, giving the Parisian crowd no chance to get involved as he convincingly advanced to the quarter-finals, 6-3, 6-0. With the win, Murray remains in contention to unseat Novak Djokovic as World No. 1. The Brit must either win the title in Paris and have Djokovic lose before the final, or reach the final and have Djokovic lose before the semi-finals. The Serbian also moved into the quarter-finals with a three-set win over No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov. “I thought I returned well today. I had chances in almost all of his service games...
Top seed and three-time defending BNP Paribas Masters champion Novak Djokovic fought through a tricky opponent on Thursday in Paris, rallying from a set down and defeat No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov in their third-round clash, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Djokovic extends his win streak in Bercy to 17 consecutive matches. He will maintain his World No. 1 ranking over Andy Murray should he win two more matches and reach the final in Paris. “I'm very grateful to have such a crowd and perform in front of them. I think they appreciated the battle between Grigor and I today,” said Djokovic. “I think we both gave what we could. I think it was a really, really nice match to be a...
