Defending Champions Kontinen/Peers Qualify For Nitto ATP Finals

Henri Kontinen and John Peers will return to defend their title this November at The O2 after becoming the second team to qualify for the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals. They clinched their place in the elite eight-team field by reaching the US Open quarter-finals Monday with victory over Juan Sebastian Cabal and Leonardo Mayer. “It’s awesome to be back. Bryans Surge Into US Open Third Round

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan are ramping up their bid for a sixth US Open men’s doubles crown. The fifth-seeded Americans easily disposed of the all-Australian duo of Nick Kyrgios and Matt Reid to progress to the third round on Saturday. Their 6-1, 6-1 triumph set a showdown with No. 9 seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic. There was success for another all-American pairing with wild cards Christopher Eubanks and Christian Harrison advancing. Dutchmen Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop are celebrating a huge first-round boilover in the men’s doubles at the US Open after springing the upset over in-form French duo, No. 3 seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 6-4. Herbert and Mahut had won back-to-back ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles leading in, at the Coupe Rogers and Western & Southern Open, but were no match for the unseeded pair.
