My Point: Lopez's New Journey

17 October 2002. That date will always be etched into my mind. I close my eyes and I can still put myself there. The memory of my first Mutua Madrid Open back in the Rocódromo in Casa de Campo has not gone away, and I don’t think it ever will. I was just 21 years old and in only my second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. But I was digging deep against one of the best players in the sport: Andre Agassi. Although I didn't manage to win the three-setter, it was a magical defeat and one of the most special days of my career. The atmosphere was unbeatable and the emotions incomparable. That day, I knew that I...

During his time on the ATP World Tour, Feliciano Lopez has amassed a number of accomplishments. On Tuesday, the left-handed Lopez will face Dusan Lajovic, a 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 winner over Pedro Martinez in the first round of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.  When he was just 16 years old, Lopez was granted a wild card by the Real Tennis Club Barcelona, the facility that runs the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, after they saw serious potential in the young Spaniard. Lopez made the most of...

Lopez Squeezes Past Sock To Near Best Indian Wells Showing

In his 16th BNP Paribas Open, Feliciano Lopez is only one round away from recording his best result at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The 36-year-old Spaniard upset eighth seed Jack Sock on Tuesday evening, escaping a tight third-round match 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-4. Sock was looking to return to the semi-finals in Indian Wells (l. to eventual champion Federer in 2017). But Lopez was solid on serve and opportunistic with his return game during the pair's fourth FedEx ATP Head2Head meeting (2-2), which lasted almost two hours and 30 minutes.  Watch Full Match Replays Neither player saw a break point in the opener, but Lopez came back in the tie-break after Sock led by a...
