Andy Murray was left to ponder a shocking loss against qualifier Vasek Pospisil on Saturday at the BNP Paribas Open, but insists he doesn’t have a serve-and-volley problem. After Mischa Zverev used that tactic to perfection in defeating the World No. 1 last month at the Australian Open, Pospisil utilised the same strategy on Stadium 1 in Indian Wells. But while Murray had trouble with the Canadian’s charges toward the net, he said there were bigger issues that he struggled to handle throughout the match. “I have never really practised playing against serve-and-volleyers in my career. Nick Kyrgios and Nenad Zimonjic proved to be a winning combination on the doubles court as they upset second seeds and two-time former champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday. The Australian/Serbian duo struck 13 aces as they prevailed in 69 minutes against the Bryans, who lifted the trophy in Indian Wells in 2013-14. Kyrgios is searching for his first ATP World Tour doubles crown alongside a stalwart of the game. The 40-year-old Zimonjic is a winner of 54 tour-level doubles titles, and is a two-time runner-up in the desert. Top seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut opened up their title defense with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7...
Qualifier Vasek Pospisil claimed the biggest win of his career in dramatic fashion on Saturday night at the BNP Paribas Open as he stunned World No. 1 Andy Murray 6-4, 7-6(5) to reach the third round in Indian Wells. "If I pick a handful of great moments in my career, this is definitely one of them," said Pospisil. "To beat the No. 1 player and somebody as accomplished as Andy, one of the greats of the game, is amazing." The Canadian has endured a turbulent 12 months, seeing his position in the Emirates ATP Rankings drop to No. 135, having been as high as No. 25 three years ago. But under the guidance of new coach Mark Woodforde, whom he...
