Disappointed Raonic Looks To Get Match Sharp

Milos Raonic was left “heavily disappointed” on Wednesday by his second-round exit at the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp, which marked his return to the ATP World Tour after a three-month absence. But the Canadian believes through good practise he’ll be ready for his next tournament. “I am heavily disappointed,” said Raonic, after his 6-4, 6-4 loss to Australian wild card Alex de Minaur. “I was hoping to do better. [ALSO LIKE] “It’s normal, you don’t expect to have everything clicking [in the first match of the year], you expect to go out there and have to fight and hopefully put things together, and I wasn’t able to do that today." It was Raonic’s first competitive match since he was...

Sock Savours London Experience With An Eye On 2018

All dreams must come to an end.  For Jack Sock, the Nitto ATP Finals fairy tale concluded on Saturday in London. As he has done throughout the past few weeks, Sock refused to fall without a fight, battling to the last ball against Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian prevailed 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, but the gritty semi-final encounter would be decided by the slimmest of margins. The tennis world won't soon forget the American's magical run to punch his ticket to the season finale and glittering performances under the bright lights of The O2. And neither will he. Despite succumbing to Dimitrov, Sock admits there are only positives from his experience. "I can't complain," Sock told the assembled media following Saturday's match....

Federer: "It's Been An Amazing Year"

It might not be the finish that he had hoped for, but Roger Federer is taking nothing for granted in his historic comeback season. Federer’s 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to David Goffin in the semi-finals of the Nitto ATP Finals might have come as a surprise, but not given the level of play that the seventh-seeded Belgian managed to produce after dropping the first set. Maneuvering Federer around the court with his signature brand of pinpoint counterpunching tennis, Goffin claimed one of the biggest wins of his career just days after defeating World No.1 Rafael Nadal, becoming the sixth player in history to defeat both Federer and Nadal at the same tournament. “I think it was a tough game to...

Thiem Turns To 2018 After London Defeat

Dominic Thiem enjoyed the best season of his still-fledgling career in 2017, but the Austrian was the first to admit that it did not end the way he had hoped. Thiem dropped his final round-robin encounter at the Nitto ATP Finals on Friday, suffering a 6-4, 6-1 defeat to David Goffin. It was a 'win and you're in' elimination match and Goffin dominated from start to finish, en route to securing a semi-final berth. After storming to a quick 3-0 lead, Thiem was unable to rediscover his rhythm during the 72-minute affair, committing an uncharacteristic 27 unforced errors. Following the loss, the 24-year-old reflected on his performance. "I had a very, very good start obviously," said Thiem. "Again, there were...

Roger Says No. 1 is ‘Ultimate Achievement, But Not Realistic’

It's no secret that the resurgence of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer has stolen the headlines on the ATP World Tour this year. Big title after big title was theirs to seize and the duo would be rewarded with the top two spots in the year-end Emirates ATP Rankings. While Nadal will finish the season ahead of Federer at No. 1, the battle for the top position is far from finished. Should the Swiss lift the trophy at this week's Nitto ATP Finals, the gap between the two legends would be a mere 140 points in the Emirates ATP Rankings, as the calendar flips to 2018. That is, just 140 points that separate Federer from adding to his record 302...
