Back On Clay, Kyrgios Rolls In Madrid

Aussie Nick Kyrgios hit 14 aces to beat Marcos Baghdatis 7-6(1), 6-4 and move into the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Monday. Kyrgios, playing in his first clay-court match since 27 May 2016, won 81 per cent of his service points and converted his only break point. The 16th-seeded Kyrgios will next face American Ryan Harrison or countryman Bernard Tomic in the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament. Dimitrov Gets Off To Winning Start In Madrid

Grigor Dimitrov, a winner of two ATP World Tour titles this year, got off to a winning start at the Mutua Madrid Open on Monday when the 12th seed beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(7), 6-4 in one hour and 48 minutes. “I had to fight very hard for every single point in tough conditions,” said Dimitrov, who is overcoming a virus. “I didn’t have any expectations against a very good player and competitor. Goffin, Fognini Advance On Day One In Madrid

David Goffin exacted revenge on Karen Khachanov in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday. Less than two weeks after falling to the #NextGenATP Russian in Barcelona, the ninth seed notched a 6-2, 7-6(8) victory at the Caja Magica. Khachanov survived two match points while serving to stay in the match at 6-5, but was unable to deny a third in the ensuing tie-break, falling after one hour and 42 minutes. Carreno Busta Caps Perfect Week With Estoril Title

Top seed Pablo Carreno Busta finished off a flawless week at the Millennium Estoril Open by taking the title with a 6-2, 7-6(5) victory over third seed Gilles Muller. “It’s my first title on clay, so I’m really happy,” said Carreno Busta. “It wasn’t an easy match today because of his serve and also the volley, but I was confident with my serve. Zverev Captures First Home Title In Munich

#NextGenATP German Alexander Zverev showed his home fans precisely why much of the tennis world believes he'll reach the top of the ATP World Tour in the near future. After a slow start, the 20 year old rolled through the BMW Open by FWU final on Sunday in Munich, winning 10 of the final 13 games to beat Argentine Guido Pella 6-4, 6-3. The title is Zverev's second of the season and his third in the past nine months. The 6'6” right-hander won the St. Petersburg Open last September (d.
