Seeds Tumble In Day Two Doubles

Dutchmen Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop are celebrating a huge first-round boilover in the men’s doubles at the US Open after springing the upset over in-form French duo, No. 3 seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 6-4. Herbert and Mahut had won back-to-back ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles leading in, at the Coupe Rogers and Western & Southern Open, but were no match for the unseeded pair. There was better news for another all-French pairing, with Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin upsetting second seeds and Wimbledon champions Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. Last In, Last To Leave, Middelkoop & Koolhof Win Sydney

Wesley Koolhof/Matwe Middelkoop were the last doubles team accepted into the doubles draw at the Apia International Sydney, but leave as the last pair standing. They scored the biggest win of their careers on Saturday by defeating top seeds and defending champion Jamie Murray/Bruno Soares 6-3, 7-5 in the final. “We were ready to go play a Challenger in Canberra,” said Koolhof. “We got in, played amazing matches. The emotions are just happiness and joy at the moment.
