Benoit Paire reached the semi-finals at his first two events of the season (Pune, Sydney), and would later advance to the quarter-finals in Montpellier. But after losing to World No. 231 Mitchell Krueger at the BNP Paribas Open, he did not have much momentum arriving in Miami.  But the Frenchman proved he did not need it, defeating six-time champion Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 in a 67-minute second-round match Friday at the Miami Open presented by Itau to hand the former World No.1 his third consecutive loss. Cilic Clicks, Moves On In Miami

Marin Cilic has not had it easy since advancing to the Australian Open final (l. to Federer), his second Grand Slam championship match in the past three majors (also 2017 Wimbledon). The World No. 3 lost in the second round at the Rio Open presented by Claro and the third round at the BNP Paribas Open. Portugal’s Joao Sousa recorded the fourth Top 10 victory of his career (4-26 lifetime) on Friday for a place in the Miami Open presented by Itau third round. The 29-year-old required 61 minutes to beat Belgium’s David Goffin, currently No. 9 in the ATP Rankings, 6-0, 6-1. “I think I played a great match today," said Sousa.
