Zverev Brothers Cruise In Home Opener

Alexander Zverev and Mischa Zverev won an all-German doubles battle on Monday at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, dismissing wild cards Florian Mayer and Philipp Petzschner 6-4, 6-1. The Zverev brothers rolled in the opener, winning 80 per cent of their service points and saving the lone break point they faced. They will meet Brian Baker of the U.S. and Alexander Peya of Austria in the quarter-finals. Baker/Peya knocked off fourth seeds and Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell champions Florin Mergea of Romania and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-8. Mischa Makes It Two Zverevs In Top 30

A semi-final showing at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart has lifted Mischa Zverev to a career-high No. 29 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. It brings about a rare feat of two brothers ranking inside the Top 30 as Mischa joins younger sibling, No. 12 Alexander Zverev. The 29-year-old Zverev ultimately lost out to Feliciano Lopez in a tight three-set contest on the German grass courts last week, having been hoping to reach his second ATP World Tour final of the season after a runner-up showing on clay in Geneva (l. to Wawrinka).
