My Masters 1000: Andy Roddick

They were some of the finest moments of his career: Andy Roddick, playing in front of home U.S. fans, blasting aces and hoisting trophies at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments. The right-hander won five Masters 1000 titles during his Hall of Fame career, and at the prestigious events, he also scored some of his biggest wins. Early in his career, Roddick knocked off one of his idols in Pete Sampras and later in his career, he beat one of the all-time greats who's still going, Rafael Nadal. Roddick, a two-time Western & Southern Open champion in Cincinnati, talked with ATPWorldTour.com about how he beat Sampras in Miami and about which ATP World Tour legend he'd play in his dream...

My Masters 1000: Michael Chang

Only three players have won all four ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments on North American soil. Michael Chang was the first, with titles at each stop – Canada (1990), Indian Wells (1992, ’96-97), Miami (1992) and Cincinnati (1993-94) – by the age of 21. The American was alone in the exclusive club before Andre Agassi and Roger Federer completed their sets, respectively in 2001 and 2005.  One of Chang’s most memorable runs came at the Rogers Cup in 1990, the year the Masters 1000 series was introduced. The 18 year old posted back-to-back wins over Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras before prevailing against another American, Jay Berger, in a third-set tie-break to clinch his first Masters 1000 crown. Now 45,...

My Masters 1000: Mikhail Youzhny

Mikhail Youzhny made a memorable ATP World Tour Masters 1000 debut in 2001 at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, where he reached the Round of 16 as a teenager. Now 35, the former World No. 8 continues to compete at the elite level, with more than 100 Masters 1000 tournament appearances to his name.  One of his best runs came at the Western & Southern Open in 2005, when he defeated future Top 10 players Tomas Berdych and Gael Monfils before testing World No. 5 Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals. He reflects on that match and more. You’ve reached six quarter-finals at this level. Do you have a special Masters 1000 memory? When I reach a semi-final, then I’ll let you...

My Masters 1000: Milos Raonic

Milos Raonic has won eight tour-level titles. He's reached No. 3 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, and he's played in a Wimbledon final. But Raonic has yet to win a home ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title, an achievement that would satisfy him more than almost anything else on the ATP World Tour. Raonic, the sixth seed this week at the Coupe Rogers in Montreal, talked about that elusive title and his biggest win at a Masters 1000 so far.  Which ATP World Tour Masters 1000 host city is your favourite and why? A standout is Toronto because that's where I grew up but also, I like the fact that the Masters 1000 tournament in Canada continually changes year in...

My Masters 1000: Daniel Nestor

Canada's Daniel Nestor has played his home ATP World Tour event a staggering 29 straight times, having made his debut in 1989. He boasts the honour of having won every ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, although never in Montreal. Less than a month shy of his 45th birthday, Nestor feels he has unfinished business as he has his sights set on clinching the Coupe Rogers in Montreal. He holds a 45-26 tournament record with 12 different partners, winning Toronto titles in 2000 with countryman Sebastien Lareau and 2008 with Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic.
