Talent On Tap, Kyrgios Turns It On

Nick Kyrgios has rallied from a set down for the second straight match to move into the semi-finals of the Brisbane International. The richly talented Australian dropped the first set against Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov before stepping up his intensity to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Far from being concerned about his sluggish start, Kyrgios said that he is reassured by his ability to raise his game when it counts. "As bad as it is to say, it's kind of like a tap. I can turn it on when I want to," he told reporters after the match. Kyrgios, 22, will next meet top seed and defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, who edged past Briton Kyle Edmund late night. The initial response from the World No. 21 gave Murray food for thought but with both men standing strong, negotiations eventually broke down. “I offered him 9am. I thought 9am...

Just In The Nick Of Time

An injury scare interrupted Nick Kyrgios' 2018 debut, but the Aussie didn't take the easy way out on Wednesday at the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp. The third seed recovered from a set down and overcame pain in his left knee to oust his veteran countryman Matt Ebden 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-2 in his first match of the 2018 ATP World Tour season. “I was a bit rusty in my first match of the year. I played a great doubles match yesterday with my great mate Matt Reid and that gave me that bit of confidence,” Kyrgios said. “I was just happy to get through today.”  It took Kyrgios about a set and a half to find his world-class level. The...
