Broady Bounces Back With Fresh Focus

Expectations are high when a young prospect makes Junior Grand Slam finals. Those expectations are only amplified when said prospect is from a nation with as rich a tennis history as Great Britain. For Liam Broady, a run to the second round at Wimbledon in 2015 catapulted him to a career-best No. 158 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. It came after reaching his first ATP Challenger Tour final in the preceding November where he had fallen to James Duckworth in Charlottesville. Progress since his been jittery at best and the 23 year old Stockport native is the first to admit it. But a first Challenger final in three years in Aptos, California, on Sunday, went a long way to restoring...

Forming Their Games On Clay But Succeeding On Hard

They spent their formative years on clay, sliding and grinding away on red dirt. But you could hardly call #NextGenATP American Jared Donaldson and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta exclusively “dirtballers”. The two, despite their vast experience on clay, have found ways to excel on clay courts and hard courts, including Monday at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. Donaldson, 20, earned his third ATP World Tour Masters 1000 win of the past two weeks, upsetting 12th seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 7-6(5), 6-3 to advance to the second round. Carreno Busta, playing in his second match since Roland Garros (due to an abdomen injury), also needed only two sets, moving on with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Italian...

My Masters 1000: Mikhail Youzhny

Mikhail Youzhny made a memorable ATP World Tour Masters 1000 debut in 2001 at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, where he reached the Round of 16 as a teenager. Now 35, the former World No. 8 continues to compete at the elite level, with more than 100 Masters 1000 tournament appearances to his name.  One of his best runs came at the Western & Southern Open in 2005, when he defeated future Top 10 players Tomas Berdych and Gael Monfils before testing World No. 5 Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals. He reflects on that match and more. You’ve reached six quarter-finals at this level. Do you have a special Masters 1000 memory? When I reach a semi-final, then I’ll let you...

Ferrero: 'I Was Shocked By His Discipline'

When you listen to a former World No. 1, someone who made it to the pinnacle of the ATP World Tour, experience resides in each phrase. The advice of Juan Carlos Ferrero clearly carries weight with fast-rising #NextGenATP leader Alexander Zverev, who on Sunday won his second consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title in Montreal. The chemistry between the two couldn’t have sparked success any faster. Since they began working together in mid-July, victory has been their only destiny: 10 wins in a row (the longest winning-streak in Alexander’s career) and titles in Washington and Montreal (with a tour-leading five crowns in 2017).   Watch Live On TennisTV  Watch Full Match Replays Zverev has risen to a career-high ranking of...

Spotlight On Shapovalov: Canada's Rising Star

It all started with a volley. Arguably the most daring and improbable shot of the tournament. It wasn't just any volley. An off-balance moment of improvisation that Denis Shapovalov had no business converting. Rogerio Dutra Silva had one leg into the second round of the Coupe Rogers. A rifled, dipping forehand at his opponent's feet was surely enough to send him over the finish line, but a moment of magic would stop the Brazilian in his tracks and bring the Montreal faithful to their feet. It was every bit audacious as it was brilliant: an off-balance drop volley winner from just inside the service line. Match point saved. The dream stays alive. One of four match points saved on that...
