Juan Carlos Ferrero and #NextGenATP German Alexander Zverev will work together in person for the first time this week at the Citi Open in Washington, DC. But the former World No. 1 has already helped Zverev have success on the ATP World Tour this season. Ferrero and Zverev have been talking almost daily since the 20 year old personally approached Ferrero at the Mutua Madrid Open about joining his team. “He told me that maybe he wants to work a little bit with me because I have the experience to be there on the top and I have the experience to win Grand Slams,” Ferrero exclusively told ATPWorldTour.com on Sunday in Washington. Since that first discussion, Zverev has continued his...
#NextGenATP Akira Santillan feels like now is his time to flourish on the ATP World Tour. The 20 year old recently earned the biggest victories of his career – winning his first ATP Challenger Tour title earlier this month in Winnetka and claiming his first ATP World Tour win at the Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open in Newport (d. Mmoh). Santillan has also resolved a nagging dilemma that had been weighing on his mind and affecting his play: Which country should he represent? After more than a decade of competing together in ATP World Tour doubles events, Thai twins Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana found themselves battling against each other on Thursday at the BB&T Atlanta Open. The Ratiwatana brothers didn't play together in Atlanta because their combined Emirates ATP Doubles Ranking would have left them outside the cut to make the Atlanta doubles draw. By playing with other players, though, both brothers were able to compete in main draw action. Sanchai and John Millman moved into the semi-finals over Sonchat and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-2, 6-4. The brothers had squared off only once before, at an ATP Challenger Tour event in Cremona in July 2011. Sanchai (w/Mektic) also came out on top in...
Twenty-three years into his professional career, the body may creak a bit, but the mind of Nenad Zimonjic remains ambitious. A long-time custodian of doubles and its promotion, Zimonjic is a fervent and proud ambassador. Today, in his 42nd year, the Serbian has become the 10th player to record 700 doubles match wins (or more). The feat encompasses an 18-year span from his first tour-level match win with Nebojsa Djordjevic in a Davis Cup zonal tie in May 1995 to his 700th victory today with Marcin Matkowski in the German Tennis Championships 2017 first round (d. Berlocq-Schwartzman). “It’s nice to play in Hamburg again, for the first time since 2012, and to achieve the 700th match win in a country...
