World No. 1 Rafael Nadal continued his quest for a 17th Grand Slam championship with an often hard-fought second-round victory over Leonardo Mayer on Wednesday evening at the Australian Open. The top two players in the ATP Rankings, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, have been nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards following a vote by the world’s sports media. The superstars will compete against athletics world championships 10,000m gold and 5,000m silver medal-winning athlete Mo Farah, four-time Tour de France winning cyclist Chris Froome and Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, which will be announced on 27 February in Monaco.
