Muller Ignites Sofia Title Charge

Gilles Muller safely navigated through his opening match at the Garanti Koza Sofia Open on Tuesday to book a second-round encounter with Mikhail Youzhny. The fifth-seeded Muller progressed to the 2016 semi-finals in Bulgaria and ignited his title charge with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over qualifier Mathias Bourgue. Youzhny, ranked No. 89, prevented Marko Tepavac from a debut ATP World Tour win, navigating past the Serbian 7-6(2), 6-4. Muller Is Mover Of The Week In Top 100 Of Emirates ATP Rankings

Gilles Muller moved up to a career-high of No. 28, following his victory at the Apia International Sydney where he lifted his first ATP World Tour title. Competing in his sixth final (1-5), the Luxembourg native defeated Daniel Evans 7-6(5), 6-2 in front of his two sons, Lenny and Nils. He also beat two-time defending champion Viktor Troicki in the semi-finals, ending the Serbian’s 10-match winning streak at the tournament. Gilles Muller beat Daniel Evans 7-6(5), 6-2 on Saturday at the Apia International Sydney to capture his first ATP World Tour title. It was an emotional moment for the 33-year-old Luxembourg native, who had gone 0-5 in his previous ATP World Tour finals.
