Haase Finds Form, Upsets Goffin In Gstaad

Robin Haase came alive in The Alps once more, just as he has done in two previous runs to the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad final, when the Dutchman ended David Goffin’s bid for a third ATP World Tour title on Friday. Haase began in fine style by breaking for a 2-0 lead, and while his top-seeded Belgium opponent stayed in contention, World No. 50 Haase won seven straight games from 5-5 in the first set en route to a 7-5, 6-1 victory in 81 minutes. Bautista Agut & Coach Visit Wasserngrat Region In Gstaad

Roberto Bautista Agut and his coach Pepe Vendrell visited the Wasserngrat mountain region in the Alps on Thursday, the smallest of Gstaad’s ski region. After hitting a few balls in the beautiful landscape, a hiking trail in the Alps, they enjoyed a lunch including the typical Swiss potato dish Rösti. “It is beautiful up here, the landscape is amazing,” said Bautista Agut. “I love the mountains!” Vendrell added, “This is outstanding, the best activity I’ve done all year.” Second seed Bautista Agut takes on Denis Istomin on Friday in the quarter-finals of the J. Fognini, Gulbis Reach Gstaad QFs; Lopez Falls

Fabio Fognini will face another mercurial talent Ernests Gulbis on Friday in the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad quarter-finals. Gulbis, who continues his return to consistent form, leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head 4-1, but the pair has not met since October 2014. Goffin Saves Four M.P. In Gstaad

Top seed David Goffin fended off four match points – three consecutively – to claim his opener at the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad, beating Moldovan Radu Albot 2-6, 7-6(7), 7-6(7) on Wednesday. Goffin, who reached the Gstaad final in 2015, was down 3/6 in the third-set tie-break but reeled off three consecutive points to get to 6/6. Albot then held another match point at 7/6, but Goffin won the final three points to reach the quarter-finals at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Switzerland.
