Chung Strengthens Race To Milan Bid, Ousts Defending Finalist

Any hopes the defending Shanghai Rolex Masters finalist had of qualifying in the Race To London are in jeopardy after Hyeon Chung ousted ninth-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-4, 6-3 on Monday. The #NextGenATP Korean equalled the best win of his career with his victory over the No. 13 in the Emirates ATP Rankings (also d. No. 13 Goffin in Montreal) in his first ATP World Tour match since the US Open. Chung was never truly threatened against Bautista Agut, only facing three break points in the match, all of which he saved in the same game in the second set. Hyeon Chung led the #NextGenATP charge on Monday, beating Horacio Zeballos 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-3 at the US Open. The Korean hit 63 winners and saved 12 of the 13 break points he faced to top the Argentine and reach the second round, where he will face No.10 seed John Isner. Jared Donaldson carried the #NextGenATP torch for the Americans on Monday, downing Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(6). Chung, #NextGenATP Reach Montreal Third Round

Three #NextGenATP players, Hyeon Chung, Borna Coric and Ernesto Escobedo, who are all vying for a place at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan later this year, got off to winning starts on Tuesday at the Coupe Rogers. All three players feature in the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Race To Milan. Chung, 21, withstood 16 aces from 2014 semi-finalist Feliciano Lopez in a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(3) win over two hours and 15 minutes to set up a second-round encounter against ninth seed David Goffin or Yuichi Sugita.
