Federer, Nadal Take Top Two Spots In Montreal
In a sight that many tennis fans wouldn’t have expected at the start of the season, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are once again the top seeds at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event as the Coupe Rogers kicks off next week in Montreal. It marks the first time since 2009 that Federer and Nadal have held the top two spots in Canada. Federer and Nadal have won four of the five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events held this year. The Swiss star won both hard-court events in Indian Wells and Miami, while Nadal prevailed in Monte-Carlo and Madrid. Should Nadal reach the semi-finals in Montreal, he will unseat Andy Murray for the top spot in the Emirates ATP Rankings....
Federer To Make Record 15th Appearance At Nitto ATP Finals
Six-time champion Roger Federer, the most successful player in the history of the season finale, has qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for a 15th time. The 35-year-old Swiss clinched his place alongside Rafael Nadal in the elite eight-man field by winning a record eighth Wimbledon title on Sunday, and will return to London from 12-19 November to compete at The O2. “I look forward to returning to London in November,” said Federer. “I was sad not to be able to compete last year as I love playing there and had not missed the event since 2002.” Federer made a record 14 straight appearances at the prestigious season-ending tournament from 2002-15, compiling a 52-12 match record with titles in 2003-04,...
Kubot/Melo First Team To Qualify For Nitto ATP Finals
Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo have become the first doubles team to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 12-19 November. The Polish-Brazilian team secured their place as a result of lifting their first major doubles trophy at The Championships, Wimbledon, with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(2), 6-3, 13-11 victory over Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic. It was their third straight grass-court title (Ricoh Open and Gerry Weber Open) and their seventh tour-level doubles crown. Unbeaten on grass in 2017 with a 14-0 record, Kubot and Melo have a 33-9 match tally this year. [ALSO LIKE] Melo has now qualified for the prestigious season finale for the fifth straight year (since 2013). Three...
Nadal Withdraws From Aegon Championships At The Queen’s Club
Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Aegon Championships at The Queen’s Club after taking the advice of his doctors to rest. Nadal, who won a 10th Roland Garros crown on Sunday after titles in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid over the past two months, said: “I am very sorry to say that I am not going to be able play Queen’s next week. I am sad to make this decision because I love Queen’s, I won the tournament in 2008 and every time I reached the Wimbledon final it was after playing Queen’s. “I was hoping to take some days off and then be ready, but at 31, and after a long clay court season with all of the emotions...
