NFL quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith are re-upping their investment in Vicis. The Seattle-based high-tech helmet maker expanded its Series B investment round by $1.5 million thanks to more cash from Rodgers and Smith. Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers star, already invested in the round this past November via his venture capital fund Rx3 Ventures. Smith, now with the Washington Redskins, backed the company in 2017. Vicis is adding another big name to its investor list as the company opens up sales of its high-tech football helmet to all youth football players. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has invested in the Seattle startup via Rx3 Ventures, a new consumer-focused fund based in Orange County, Vicis announced Thursday morning. With the investment, Vicis says it has now closed its $28.5 million Series B round. Vicis lands $15M to boost production of high-tech football helmets and expand beyond gridiron

Vicis, the Seattle-based company known for high-tech helmets used in the NFL, NCAA, high school and youth football, has raised an additional $15 million, bringing its total funding to $70 million in its quest to reduce the risk of head injuries from the gridiron to the battlefield. The new investment was led by investors including former NFL quarterback Roger Staubach; media, auto and sports magnate Red McCombs and Cincinnati Reds minority owner Harry Fath, according to a company representative. NFL helmet safety testing results: Vicis ranks first again for its high-tech head protector

Vicis makes the safest helmet in football. That’s the verdict again from the NFL, which ranked the Seattle startup atop its 2018 Helmet Laboratory Testing Performance Results. The league worked with the NFL Players’ Association and its biomechanical experts to assess 34 helmet models made by six companies that could be worn in the upcoming 2018 season and determine which was best at reducing head impact severity experienced by NFL players on the field.
